Dr James McLaughlin's Homepage

Welcome! I am a Lecturer in Applied Mathematics at Northumbria University. I am a member of the Intelligent Modelling Lab and I am based within the School of Computing, Engineering and Information Sciences .

I am primarily interested in magnetohydrodynamics (MHD), specifically in the theoretical behaviour of MHD waves in inhomogeneous media, with application to the solar atmosphere. Most of my time is spent on research, but I am also involved in undergraduate lecturing and public outreach events.

Below are details of my career and research interests to date, along with my contact details and links to my publications.

Publications Research Interests

Details of my current research interests can be found here.
In general, I am interested in:

  • MHD Wave Theory
  • Magnetic Topology
  • Numerical Methods / Computational MHD
  • Coronal Heating
  • Impulsive Excitation
