Dr Seker has organised the 4th invited session “Bringing big data to its knees-IV: Advances in storing, mining and visualising big bio-medical data in the post-genomic era” at IEEE EMBC 2016 (17-20 August 2016, Orlando, FL, USA). This has been the 4th year running since 2013 in Osaka.

 

Dr Seker delivered an invited talk “Deep analysis of microscopic parasite images: Towards automating the detection of the parasites in farm animals” at 2016 International Conference on Image, Vision and Computing (ICIVC 2016) (August 3-5, 2016, Portsmouth, UK)

 

Dr Seker has received “Student-Led Teaching Award” (June 2016)

 

Dr Seker delivered an invited talk “Making an impact with big data in the digital age: Challenges and Opportunities”, at ICCIT 2016 (11-12 April 2016, Istanbul, Turkey)

Dr Seker delivered an invited talk “Making the technology work for productive clinical practices in the big data era” at The 6th International Performance and Quality in Health Care Congress (01-04 March 2016, Antalya, Turkey)

 

Journal Special Issue on “Big Data Mining using Efficient Fuzzy Systems”; Dr Huseyin Seker is the corresponding guest editor for the journal special issue on “Efficient fuzzy systems for mining large scale, imprecise, uncertain and vague data” to be published in International Journal of Fuzzy Systems.

Dr Huseyin Seker has an invited special session “Bringing big data to its knees – III: Advances in storing, mining and visualising big bio-medical data in the post-genomic era” at IEEE EMBC 2015 (25-29 August 2015, Milan, Italy). This was previously organised in Osaka 2013 and Chicago 2014.

CISAPS webserver is now available. This is a part of the recently accepted journal paper “Complex Informational Spectrum for the Analysis of Protein Sequences” in Advances in Bioinformatics. The webserver along with its user manual can be accessed at http://sproteomics.com/cisaps/default/index.

Dr Huseyin Seker has two invited special sessions at IEEE EMBC 2014 (Chicago, USA, 26-30 August 2014).


(1) "Bringing big data to its knees - II; Advances in storing, mining and visualising big bio-medical data in the post-genomic era"


(2) "Skin Cancer Imaging and Image Classification”

Dr Huseyin Seker has received an invitation and full funding from the University of Cambridge - Isaac Newton Institute for Mathematical Sciences to attend the workshop on "Mathematical, Statistical and Computational Aspects of the New Science of Metagenomics" (24-28 March 2014).

The group members (H.Seker, A. Orun and E. Goodyear) have been awarded a project funding to work on “Development of novel non-invasive diagnostic tools for early signs of diseases by use of comprehensive laser speckle imaging methods and computational intelligence”. The project will last 9 months commencing in October 2013.

AIHLS2013, chaired by Dr Huseyin Seker, has taken place successfully.

IABC2013, Intensive Applied Bioinformatics Course, organised and coordinated by Dr Seker, has taken place successfully.

Dr Huseyin Seker has been invited to act as the co-chair of special track "Informatics in Biological Systems" at IFMBE International Conference on Health Informatics in Vilamoura, Portugal on 7-9 November, 2013. IFMBE (The International Federation for Medical and Biological Engineering) is the world largest organization focusing on biomedical engineering.

Dr Huseyin Seker is charing a panel discussion on "The Analysis of Big Bio-Medical Data: Industrial and Academic Views" at IEEE EMBC 2013. EMBC 2013 is the 35th annual conference of IEEE EMBS being the most prestigious and largest of its kind.

Dr Huseyin Seker has been invited to be the Special Session Chair for IEEE BIBE 2013 being one of the most prestigious and well established conferences in its field.

Dr Huseyin Seker has been invited to give a talk on "Information Fusion and Data Mining Makes Biosensors Even Smarter" in Graduate Summer School on ‘Recent Advances in Biosensor Design and Applications’ (1-8 September 2013, Bodrum, Turkey).

Dr Huseyin Seker is chairing the International Conference on Applied Informatics for Health and Life Sciences (9-11 September 2013, Istanbul, Turkey).

Dr Huseyin Seker, in collaboration with DONEGENETIK and Istanbul University, has organised “Intensive Applied Bioinformatics Course” (7-8 September 2013, Istanbul, Turkey).

IEEE EMBC 2013 Invited Special Session: Dr Huseyin Seker is organising the invited special session “Bringing big data to its knees; Advances in computational discovery of life-saving knowledge from big bio-medical data” at IEEE EMBC 2013 (Osaka, Japan, 3-7 July 2013).

New research funding: The research team (Dr Goodyear, Dr Seker and Dr Smith) has won a research funding to work on computational identification of skin types. This will help further extend the previously funded project “Expert System Development for the Detection of Melanoma (Skin Cancer)” led by Dr Smith and Dr Seker.

Group members succesfully defended their PhDs: Group members, Norbert Nwankwo and Charalambos Chrysostomou, successfully defended their PhDs. We congratulate Dr Nwankwo and Dr Chrysostomou on their hard work and success, and wish them very best for the future.

Invited Speaker at International Congress of Molecular Medicine: Dr Huseyin Seker has been invited to give a talk on Computational Discovery of Biomarkers in Molecular Medicine in the Post-Genome Era at the 5th International Congress of Molecular Medicine(Elazig, 27-30 June 2013).

Keynote speaker at Molecular Biology and Genetics Student Congress: Dr Huseyin Seker delivered his keynote speech at the International ITU 6th Molecular Biology and Genetics Student Congress (Istanbul, 27-30 August 2012).

IEEE EMBC 2012 Special Session: Dr Huseyin Seker has orginised and is charing the special session on Recent Advances and Challenges in Data Mining in Bio-Medicine at the IEEE-EMBS International Conference on Biomedical and Health Informatics (Hong Kong and Shenzhen, China, 5-7 January, 2012).

Speaker at MEDILINK: Dr Huseyin Seker has been invited to give a talk at MEDILINK East Midlands Bioinformatics and Biomarker Discovery Special Interest Group

Attended to Uni. of Cambridge workshop funding: Dr Huseyin Seker received full funding from Isaac Newton Institute for Mathematical Sciences (University of Cambridge) to attend four workshops on Inverse Problems and Design of Experiments in July-September 2011.

Professor James Bezdek's visit: Professor James Bezdek, who is our research collaborator, visited the university and delivered a talk on Anomaly Detection in Wireless Sensor Networks for Environmental Monitoring in 22-26 August 2011.

BBC news for the skin cancer project: BBC news for the skin cancer project funded by HOPE foundation and supervised by Dr Geoff Smith and Dr Huseyin Seker

HOPE research project funding: Dr Geoff Smith and Dr Huseyin Seker have been awarded a research project funding by the HOPE foundation to work on Expert System Development for the Detection of Melanoma (Skin Cancer). Mr. Martin Mueller-Holtz has been found successful to work on the project as a PhD researcher. The three-year project started in April 2011.
